Secured credit cards are perhaps the best type of cards for those with no credit or poor credit. If you have bad credit or need to establish a credit history, secured credit cards are probably the best credit cards to get because you are very likely to get approval and most report your payments to the three major credit bureaus.

For a secured credit card, you have to deposit a certain amount of money (usually between $250-$15,000) with the bank issuing the secured credit card. The bank will normally extend a credit of anywhere between 50% to 100% of the deposit amount. This deposit acts as collateral for your secured credit card bills. You may also be eligible to get a secured credit card through a credit union.

Secured credit cards are a good way to start building your credit history. Your credit score is partially based on the length of your credit history, so by establishing a history with a secured credit card, you can boost your credit score without running a high risk of default.

Not only do you get to build up your credit, but you also build a savings account. Often times after you have a year of good payment history with the secured credit card bank, they will make your credit card unsecured and release your security deposit back to you.

Secured credit cards are accepted by vendors around the world with some cards offering rewards and account features that make managing your credit card convenient and easy. As with all credit cards it is important to carefully review the terms and conditions before applying to ensure you select the right card for your lifestyle.

If you’ve checked out the comparisons between the credit card companies, you’ll see that secured credit cards are an important part of their financial packages. They offer them with all kinds of special deals, like low interest, just to get you started on the right foot. So no matter where you live, whether it is Canada, the US, the UK, Australia, or anywhere else in the world, you can either establish, or re-establish your credit rating, using this great financial tool – the secured credit card.
